Government commits to Votes for Life in Queen's Speech

The Liberal Democrats in Europe today welcomed the Government's commitment to restoring the voting rights to UK citizens living abroad.

Presenting the newly elected government's programme for the next legislature period, the Queen announced the establishment of a Constitution, Democracy and Rights Commission. In the background briefing notes published here, the government explained that it was committed to getting rid of the current arbitrary 15-year limit on voting rights for UK citizens living abroad.
