On 10th April the Liberal Democrats in Europe Belgian branch organised a buffet for 140+ people following the screening at the European Parliament of the film "Postcards from the 48%". The screening of the film created by David Nicholas Wilkinson was organised by Catherine Bearder's office at the European Parliament.
The film itself includes interviews with various celebrities including Miriam Margolyes, Patrick Stewart and Bob Geldof, all staunch Remainers. It also features politicians including Sir Vince Cable, Nick Clegg and Catherine Bearder, the only MEP to appear in the film. Locations include Poole, Sheffield, Manchester, Ebbw Vale and Derry.
Wilkinson's motivation to make the film was to give a voice to the 16 million who voted Remain to make clear not everyone in the UK voted for Brexit. The film very poignantly depicts the mourning process that is going on within the UK amongst Remainers. It also provides insight into the problems that Brexit has created for maintaining the Good Friday Agreement.
The event also included interventions from Femi Oluwole, founder of "Our Future Our Choice" and Sue Wilson from Bremain in Spain. There was a question and answer session following the screening which was moderated by Catherine Bearder.
The buffet supper was held afterwards at the James Joyce Pub in Brussels. There were many attendees, including some MEPs from the Greens and Labour.
EU Super Girl and Young European of the Year 2018, Madeleina Kay was also in attendance, and serenaded everyone beautifully towards the end of the evening.
Venues are being sought for further screenings of the film, and there has been active crowdfunding to get the film into mainstream venues. If you would like further information see:
